Welcome to my new weekly project here on Mum's the Word! Heating Things up in the Kitchen is a weekly blog series on my favourite recipe~ the ones that are quick, easy and of course delicious!
Here in Victoria it has gotten very cold very quickly! I love this time of year, the cosiness of it, the warm fires (we have one of those gas pretend log fires in our new home.. its gorgeous. and so realistic Boy Blue tried to put a marsh mellow in it and instead melted it on the glass front.. nice! ) on go the winter woolies, hot water bottles in the beds and of course comfort food..
Every Friday I will blog my favourite family recipes.. and for the first recipe..
Beef Stroganoff.
whoa, its so good you will cry when its all gone.. or go and make some more its that quick and easy!
Im a bit of a chucka in a when it comes to recipes, meaning I just chuck in the amount I think it is..It's a laziness thing, I cant be bothered getting all the measuring thingos out.. If it looks like 2 teaspoons it is 2 teaspoons.. here are the exact amount though in case you are a more methodical cook ;)
this recipe give my family of 5 good sized servings..
Ingredients:
1kg round steak, trimmed and sliced very thinly (of cheat like me and buy beef strips)
1/3cup plain flour
1/2 teaspoon salt,
1/3 teaspoon pepper
2teaspoons smoked sweet paprika
300g button mushrooms, sliced
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/2cup beef stock
2tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
2/3 cup of sour cream ( I use light.. it makes me feel better about how much I chuck in)
Place the plain flour, salt, pepper and smoked sweet paprika in a bowl, put your beef strips in there with it and give it a good mix.

add your mushrooms, and garlic turn the heat down to half and cook until the mushies are soft. Add your tomato paste, stock and Worcestershire sauce give it all a good mix and then throw in the magic ingredient~ the sour cream
look at that ~ magic!
Stir it though until warmed and your good to go!
Serve with whatever floats your boat.. We had pasta and green beans..

ReplyDeleteI must confess I read the title though and was expecting to see a vlog of you cooking all Nigella(-esque)!!! x
I could never pull off a Nigella.. I havent got her voluptuous bust ;) hahaha!
ReplyDeleteLove it , yum ! I mentioned once I licked the plate when nobody was looking and got a trolly comment about it .
ReplyDeletenasty Trolls~ lol!! Im pretty sure HB still licks the plate while no ones looking and why not~ best compliment you could get!! x
ReplyDeleteStroganoff is a favourite in our house too (though it's a vegan version lol). There's nothing more rewarding after cooking than seeing a child scrape (or lick) the plate clean.
ReplyDeleteYum, I love a good Strog! I'll have to give your recipe a go!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm yummy~!
ReplyDeleteMmm, this looks really good. I used to make chicken strog all the time, but haven't made it for ages. Now that winter is almost here it is time to get out those gorgeous warming recipes again.
ReplyDeleteYum. Nothing like strog on those cold winter nights.
